In celebration of Hip-Hop 50th anniversary, LL cool J and Pop Smoke as well as Cam’ron and Rakim appear as the special faces, gracing special edition of Metro Cards in New York City.

On the 4th of August (Friday), MTA announced that, LL cool J and the late Pop Smoke’s cards would be debuting today, Saturday (5th of August).

The legendary Hip-Hop rapper LL cool J‘s cards, will be made available only in his hometown at the Forest Hills 71 Av station, Queens.

In Brooklyn, the home town of late Pop Smoke. His own cards would be sold at Canarsie-Rockaway PKwy (L) and also in New Lots Av (3) stations.

For Cam and Rakim, there was no fixed date or location. But it will be available later in August, as stated by MTA.

Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA), partnered with New York film maker Nicolas Heller. The purpose was to gather 25 Hip-Hop stars and other celebrities, to create a Covid Safety and warning video in 2021.

The video was played in buses and trains in New York city. With Hip-Hop having originated from New York city, it wouldn’t be a campaign if it didn’t make use of few of it’s most iconic and legendary figures.

The first one to reveal his willingness to join the campaign was ‘The Latter’, as he took to his instagram page and posted a video of Heller and himself, rehearsing his script.

“My mom has worked for the MTA for over 30 years so she was super hype. But I did read this with an attitude because it grinds my gears when people hold up the train”.

Others like Young M.A, Cam’ron, Dave East, Angie Martinez, Angela Yee, Fivio Foreign, Malibu Mitch, Desus Nice, The Kid Mero, Peter Rosenberg, Jadakiss and more, also participated.
