The tragic case of Pop Smoke’s murder reached a significant conclusion as one of the men involved received a 29-year prison sentence. Before facing his fate, the convicted man expressed deep remorse for his actions, acknowledging the irreversible pain caused by the killing of the rising Brooklyn rapper.

Final Suspect in Pop Smoke Case Sentenced

On Friday (Feb. 21), Corey Walker, one of the individuals responsible for Pop Smoke’s 2020 murder, stood before a judge to receive his sentencing. As reported by Rolling Stone, Walker, 24, had previously pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter and was now facing the legal repercussions of his role in the crime. However, before the judge delivered the final ruling, Walker took a moment to issue a heartfelt apology.

A Regretful Confession

Despite the absence of Pop Smoke’s family in court that day, Walker directly addressed them in his statement.

“Even though the Jackson family isn’t here in court today, I would like to sincerely apologize for my unforgivable actions, although there’s no apology that amounts to the taking of someone’s life,” Walker stated solemnly. “I would also like to take this opportunity to apologize to my family for the pain and embarrassment that they have endured over the last five years, as well as an apology to my community.”

His voice carried a weight of regret as he continued, acknowledging the gravity of his crime and expressing a desire to change.

“Today I take responsibility for my dreadful partake in these crimes, and as I begin my road to rehabilitation, I assure you that I will steer clear from negative behavior.”

Justice and Consequences in the Pop Smoke Murder Case

Walker was the only adult among the four individuals charged in connection to the rapper’s tragic death. The incident, which took place on February 19, 2020, in a rented Hollywood Hills home, shocked the hip-hop community and led to swift legal action. While Walker faced adult sentencing, the remaining three defendants—minors at the time of the crime—were processed through the juvenile court system.

The 15-year-old gunman responsible for firing the fatal shots received a 50-year-to-life prison sentence. However, under California law, juvenile offenders cannot be held past the age of 25 in juvenile detention facilities, meaning his future incarceration arrangements remain uncertain. Another teenage accomplice pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter and home invasion robbery in April 2023. The third juvenile has already completed his sentencing and was sent to a post-conviction juvenile facility.

The End of a Long Legal Battle

With Walker’s sentencing, the legal proceedings surrounding Pop Smoke’s murder have largely concluded. While justice has been served, the loss of the young rapper—who was on the brink of superstardom—remains a painful wound for his fans, friends, and loved ones.

Pop Smoke, born Bashar Barakah Jackson, was only 20 years old when his life was cut short. His unique voice and energy had already left an indelible mark on the drill music scene, and his influence continues to resonate in the hip-hop world.

As for Walker, his apology and sentence mark the beginning of a new chapter—one spent behind bars, reflecting on a crime that robbed the world of a promising talent far too soon.
