50 Cent advice to Drake after Kendrick Lamar battle
50 Cent shared the valuable advice he gave Drake following his high-profile rap battle with Kendrick Lamar. In an interview with Billboard on Tuesday (Oct. 22), fresh off announcing his Las Vegas residency, 50 Cent addressed the Drake and Kendrick feud, and weighed in on Drake’s current position.
“Drake’s in that spot now,” 50 said. “People are trying to resist his music, even though he’s dropping dope stuff. Some expect me to side with Kendrick because of my connection to Dre, and I love Kendrick, but honestly, I never saw anything wack in what Drake did.”
He went on to say, “They’re calling Drake ‘wack’ and saying he’s done. But that’s just the system trying to create resistance because he’s been winning for so long. In hip-hop, when you win consistently, people want you out. I experienced the same pushback with my Curtis album.”
As someone who’s faced multiple beefs in his career, 50 Cent offered Drake some perspective. “I told him it’s not about him. From the outside looking in, it’s clear—he didn’t lose. If he’s made $300 million on his last tour, what did he really lose? Nothing. I told him to keep his creative energy up, don’t let the noise affect him. This kind of resistance can make you doubt your work, but it’s essential to keep pushing forward. That tension between him and Kendrick was good for hip-hop—it pushed them to produce better material, faster.”
Despite being labeled by some as the loser of the Kendrick battle, Drake is working hard to bounce back. He’s been consistently releasing new music and teasing upcoming projects, including a rumored joint album with PartyNextDoor.
