Many fans in New Orleans, along with supporters of Lil Wayne, expressed outrage that their local hero was overlooked. But, Dee-1 stood his ground and refused to join the chorus of discontent.

The backlash was swift. While Kendrick Lamar gave a shout-out to Dee-1 in his latest track. The New Orleans Hip-hop society did not respond kindly to Dee-1’s public stance. What followed was a wave of criticism from his own city.

Numerous artists and fans from New Orleans expressed their disappointment in various forms. These included diss tracks and harsh comments on social media.

Regardless, Dee-1 did not shy away from addressing the hate. He took to Instagram on September 12 to share his thoughts on the situation, saying…

“This is why you should never love your city more than you love God”.

Despite the criticism. Dee-1 emphasized how Kendrick Lamar’s shout-out has been life-changing for him. Nonetheless, the New Orleans Hip-hop society continued to express anger over his defense of Kendrick Lamar.

In his post. Dee-1 reflected on the irony of his situation. He explained…

“So Kendrick Lamar shouted me out in his new song and honestly, it’s been life-changing already in the past 24 hours. That’s the elevation. At the same time comes the condemnation”.

While the biggest rapper in the world acknowledged his character. His own city turned against him for holding firm to his opinion.

Moreover, he continued…

“So now they got people because they mad at my opinion at who should perform at the Super Bowl making diss tracks about me. They got people saying I’m canceled from the city”.

Dee-1 shared his frustration with the New Orleans and those who once supported him. He mentioned that even individuals he considered friends, including those who invited him on their podcasts, were now turning against him.

He added…

“People who I just went on their podcast and it was all friendship and love, now calling me a clout chaser”.

Despite the criticism, Dee-1 remains steadfast. He concluded his post by stating…

“The same character that’s leading to my elevation is leading to my condemnation”.

Rather than letting the negativity from the New Orleans affect him, Dee-1 remains committed to staying true to his beliefs. His faith in God continues to guide him through the ups and downs of his journey.

The controversy surrounding Dee-1 and his stance on Kendrick Lamar’s Super Bowl performance highlights the complexity of loyalty within the New Orleans Hip-hop community.
